About the Office:

The Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) serves as a key advisor to the Mayor of the City of New York on matters related to criminal justice policy.

MOCJ works closely with various stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, city departments, non-profit organizations, and community groups, to develop and implement strategies aimed at reducing crime and incarceration, promoting fairness and legitimacy, and building safer neighborhoods.

About the Role:

Under the supervision of the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, the successful candidate will be responsible for cultivating relationships with elected officials, monitoring their activities, and identifying opportunities and challenges.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials at all levels of government
  • Monitor and analyze legislation and policy developments
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs
  • Cultivate relationships with community-based organizations and advocates
  • Prepare briefing materials and testimony for City and State hearings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience in community work or a related field
  • High school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or a related field
  • Equivalent education and/or experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree plus four years of relevant professional experience or a Master's degree plus two years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience related to criminal justice issues
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills
  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to present the agency's position
  • Effective leadership and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Residency Requirement:

New York City Residency Is Required Within 90 Days of Appointment.
