Environmental Safety Specialist

Overview
This position is pivotal in ensuring adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations while implementing organizational standards throughout the Nashville distribution center. The individual will play a crucial role in fostering continuous improvement, documenting EHS incidents and data, and preparing site performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to local and national EHS regulations, demonstrating knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards.
- Support and evaluate local EHS initiatives, including electrical safety, ergonomics, lockout/tagout procedures, hazard communication, chemical safety, powered industrial trucks, confined space protocols, waste management, emergency response, fall protection, respiratory protection, and hearing conservation.
- Oversee, report, and analyze the facility's safety and environmental performance metrics.
- Develop and maintain an auditing framework to guarantee compliance with all applicable requirements.
- Conduct and train others on EHS risk assessments.
- Perform data analysis to assist the organization in achieving EHS objectives.
- Manage EHS reporting obligations, including maintaining health and safety documentation, required environmental permits, and licenses.
- Establish and/or update site EHS policies, practices, and expectations.
- Build internal and external safety networks to promote continuous improvement within the Company's EHS programs.
- Collaborate with associates to identify issues and provide effective solutions to prevent accidents and meet operational needs.
- Work with leadership to investigate EHS incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
5-8 years of experience in safety within a distribution or manufacturing setting.
Educational Requirements
B.S. / B.A in environmental science, occupational health and safety, engineering, or a related field (biology, chemistry, etc.) is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge
- Experience in implementing and maintaining EHS regulatory programs.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations is essential. Proven expertise in one or more core technical EHS programs (e.g., Electrical Safety, contractor safety, Lockout/Tagout, Hazardous Waste Management, and Root Cause Analysis).
- Ability to prioritize tasks, set clear objectives amidst conflicting demands, develop and execute effective strategies, and integrate continuous improvement methodologies into site operations.
- Proficient in building relationships and collaborating effectively with various stakeholders.
- Experience in developing and implementing management systems programs.
- Solid understanding of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Standards.
- Demonstrated commitment to the EHS profession through engagement with external professional organizations and/or professional certification (CHMM, CSP, qualified EHS auditor, QEP, etc.) is preferred.
