Linux Security Specialist

IDR, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Linux Security Engineer to join our team in Columbia, SC for a 1-year contract opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive security policies and doctrines.
  • Provide security engineering and integration services to internal clients, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Design and develop detailed documentation to support technical projects, including architecture review board materials.
  • Assess security requirements for managing and administering sensing technologies, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Analyze complex information assurance-related technical issues and provide expert engineering and technical support for resolution.
  • Develop and implement solutions that fulfill security requirements, particularly for IDS/IPS systems, ensuring maximum security and efficiency.
  • Deploy new sensors to monitor network traffic flow, ensuring real-time monitoring and threat detection.
  • Ensure all information systems are operational and secure, with a focus on proactive security measures.
  • Install, configure, support, and implement various tools and services, including FireEye HX EDR agents and SIEM platforms.
  • Provide recommendations on collection, processing, and distribution systems in the cybersecurity sector, ensuring optimal security and efficiency.

Required Skills:

  • Proven expertise in IT security technologies, including Snort, SourceFire, and Firepower.
  • Experience with deploying customized RockyLinux, CentOS, Red Hat, and Oracle 7/8 operating systems.
  • Ability to implement recommended OS patches and kernel upgrades, ensuring server operating systems are current.
  • Management of Snort Intrusion Detection System (IDS) sensors, including analysis, design, and signature development.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, such as Python or Ansible, for automating repetitive tasks.
  • Update and configure security tools on Linux systems, deploying both open-source and commercial security solutions.
  • Foundational understanding of routers, switches, network VLANs, and VPN configurations.
  • Evaluation of current network sensing topology and identification of critical system vulnerabilities.
  • Recommendations for overall system deployment and design, ensuring optimal security and efficiency.
  • Conducting administrative and engineering tasks on Security Operation Center tools, including log collectors and EDRs.
  • Managing customer expectations and participating in mandatory reviews and regulatory discussions.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in centralized log management.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
