Overview:

This role fulfills the essential qualifications for a Laboratory General Supervisor as per CLIA standards. Under the guidance of the Laboratory Director and/or Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily functions of designated sections and shifts. This position entails an administrative capacity with direct reports and operates under an exempt pay classification. Collaborating with the Laboratory Director and/or Laboratory Manager, this role is pivotal in the development and execution of new protocols, equipment, quality assurance measures, and reagent utilization. Additionally, the Laboratory Operations Supervisor is tasked with formulating and upholding policies and procedures that align with regulatory standards while driving service quality enhancements.

  • Provides daily oversight of testing activities across various complexity levels performed by laboratory personnel.
  • Available to resolve technical issues through on-site, telephonic, or electronic means during operational hours.
  • Ensures adherence to all established policies, procedures, and standards set forth by regulatory bodies, the institution, and other governing organizations.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates the workflow of assigned sections and shifts.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records for all team members and oversees departmental timekeeping.
  • Assists in managing the Laboratory budget, including monthly financial analysis and reporting.
  • Supports performance evaluations that influence merit-based salary adjustments.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive procedural manuals for all tests conducted in assigned sections, ensuring regular updates.
  • Enforces safety protocols and procedures rigorously.
  • Researches, assesses, and implements innovative procedures, methodologies, and technologies as directed.
  • Establishes and maintains a robust Quality Control Program specific to sections and shifts.
  • Monitors testing processes and specimen evaluations to uphold high standards of analytical performance.
  • Takes corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance criteria, ensuring patient test results are accurate and reliable.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment, coordinating repairs and preventive maintenance as necessary.
  • Prepares and submits administrative and technical reports as required.
  • Manages inventory for supplies and reagents to ensure availability.
  • Trains new staff on procedures and policies, providing ongoing education on updates and revisions.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of performance improvement initiatives involving laboratory personnel.
  • Conducts educational sessions for assigned sections and shifts.
  • Participates in personnel decisions including hiring, disciplinary actions, and performance documentation.
  • Conducts competency assessments and maintains documentation for technical staff.
  • Oversees personnel expectations within assigned sections.
  • Engages in proficiency testing and maintains records of results.
  • Facilitates meetings to discuss policy changes, equipment updates, and staffing matters.
  • Utilizes the Laboratory Information System effectively.
  • Demonstrates the ability to meet the specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Processes patient specimens with attention to detail, particularly for pediatric samples.
  • Performs laboratory procedures accurately, considering age and sex-specific values.
  • Documents critical laboratory results promptly.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to ethical standards in all duties.
  • Stays informed on advancements in Medical Technology through continuous education.
  • Upholds the CORE values of the organization.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline from an accredited institution or equivalent education recognized by a credentialing agency. A minimum of five years of experience in a laboratory setting as a Medical Technologist or equivalent role is required, with at least five years of direct experience in the specific area of responsibility. Certification or eligibility for certification in relevant medical technology fields is mandatory, with the requirement to maintain current certification.
