Job Summary:

Innovive, a leading manufacturer serving the Biomedical Research community, is seeking a skilled Animal Care Technician to join our team. This entry-level position reports to the Animal Resources Manager and is responsible for the daily care of research animals, including feeding, watering, cage changing, maintaining a clean work environment, and monitoring the overall health of the animals.

This role requires a passion for animal welfare, dedication to providing clean living spaces, and flexibility in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. You will function as part of a team, and your contribution will be valued.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine animal husbandry tasks, including cage cleaning, food and water preparation, and health monitoring.
  • Prepare and submit accurate records, including census sheets, room logs, and inventory reports.
  • Sanitize and decontaminate all areas of the facility to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Follow established protocols for room entry and biosafety procedures.
  • Dispose of waste according to standard operating procedures and waste streams.
  • Receive, identify, and properly house incoming animal shipments according to SOPs.
  • Maintain animal racks and support equipment to ensure optimal animal care.
  • Assist with ordering, receipt, and stocking of all supply inventories.
  • Perform basic animal health treatments under the direction of veterinary staff.
  • Understand and follow SOPs, safety procedures, and quality assurance guidelines for animal care at all levels of biohazard containment.
  • Perform daily animal health surveillance checks and report any abnormal conditions to client, veterinary staff, and direct supervisory staff.
  • Maintain a daily animal cage census in assigned animal rooms.
  • Humanely euthanize animals as requested or required.
  • Perform other duties under supervision, as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Animal husbandry experience preferred.
  • Experience in animal care and/or research involving mammals.
  • Manual dexterity, ability to write legibly, and ability to operate a computer and telephone.
  • Ability to perform duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to understand light to moderately complex SOPs and protocols.
  • Must be able to lift a maximum of 50lbs; bend, stoop, climb, and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to wear full Personal Protective Equipment for several hours per day.
Work Schedule:
  • Weekend and holiday work required; extra hours during emergency situations and for study-related activities.
  • Schedules will be: Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday.
