We are seeking a skilled Facilities Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of our physical plant, including trades work, maintenance reserve, and capital outlay construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Perform, direct, and inspect trades work for physical plant, maintenance reserve, and capital outlay construction projects.
- Ensure contracted and in-house maintenance and construction work is performed in accordance with plans and specifications, safety standards, VDOT policies and procedures, building codes, and industry standards.
- Procure goods and services based on Commonwealth and VDOT procurement guidelines, maintain documentation of work performed, process invoices and purchases, and track funding sources and expenditures.
- Perform routine and emergency repairs and maintenance in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general construction trades.
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor in extreme heat and cold, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work on uneven ground.
- Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment used in building trades.
- Considerable knowledge of building trades and construction, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, etc.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritizing and completing them in a potentially stressful environment.
- Ability to obtain Soils and Erosion Inspector certification.
- Ability to estimate quantities and costs, prepare daily documentation and reports related to project activities.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, building and fire codes.
- Experience in building construction as project inspector, superintendent, or project manager.
- Experience with outsourcing approach to facilities management.
- A combination of training, experience, or education in HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, or related field desired.
