Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist plays a vital role in achieving the department's mission by working collaboratively to deliver innovative, personalized, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care within a culture committed to quality and safety.

This position also involves supervising pharmacy technicians and students, potentially serving as a mentor, to guarantee the precise and timely distribution of medications.


Essential Functions

People-Centric Responsibilities
Fosters a positive workplace atmosphere and contributes to a collaborative, team-oriented environment that supports each other in achieving departmental goals.

Engages with all members of the patient care team by effectively communicating and sharing critical patient care information and data comprehensively.

Mentors pharmacy technicians and students, enhancing their confidence in their skills and knowledge.

In the absence of senior staff, coordinates shift activities, overseeing and guiding the work of technicians and support staff.


Service-Oriented Responsibilities

Accurately processes all medication orders and requests, ensuring the appropriateness of all medications concerning the patient's diagnosis, allergies, and physical parameters.

Monitors workload variations and the performance of pharmacy technicians, adjusting assignments as necessary to ensure timely medication delivery to patient care areas.

Conducts proactive reviews of drug therapies, offering drug information, patient counseling, and managing pharmacist-led dosing protocols while collaborating with healthcare staff to resolve issues for achieving patient-specific objectives.


Quality and Safety Responsibilities

Works alongside other healthcare professionals to manage patients' drug therapies, focusing on effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, and interactions, adhering to formulary management guidelines and clinical intervention tools to meet patient-specific goals.

Documents patient care activities and outcomes influenced by pharmaceutical care and clinical interventions.

Participates in departmental quality management initiatives, including medication use evaluations, adverse drug reaction reporting, clinical interventions, and inventory management documentation.


Financial Responsibilities

Oversees inventory management to reduce waste and expired medications while utilizing resources efficiently.

Demonstrates self-motivation in managing time effectively and prioritizing daily responsibilities.


Growth and Innovation Responsibilities

Engages in inter- and intra-departmental activities such as in-services, article publication/presentation, preceptorship, and ongoing training. Actively seeks opportunities for continuous learning beyond baseline competencies, focusing on professional development as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist.
