Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join our team at Houston Methodist. This role will be responsible for performing advanced level work, including medication reconciliation, medication histories, verification of orders, and support of medication acquisition programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced level work, including medication reconciliation, medication histories, verification of orders, and support of medication acquisition programs.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to resolve problems and achieve patient-specific goals.
  • Guide and mentor pharmacy technicians, senior pharmacy technicians, and students to build confidence in skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Provide management feedback on technician's performance.
  • Lead workgroups and committees, and develop and implement education activities for technical staff.
  • Assist with optimizing the safety and efficiency of pharmacy operations and supporting the workflow needs of the pharmacy department.
  • Contribute to department efforts to resolve drug-related problems and maximize patient care.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Two years of college preferred.
  • Four years of pharmacy technician experience applicable to the specific work setting.
  • Cross-trained in three pharmacy work areas, or serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for a pharmacy work area.
  • Licensed Pharmacy Tech (LPHT) - State Registration, or Reg Pharmacy Intern (RPI) - State Licensure, and IV Certification (ACPE) - if applicable for primary work assignment within 90 days.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Proficient in performing accurate calculations required for usual dosage determinations.
  • Possesses proficient computer knowledge.
