Role Summary:

The Crisis Intervention Specialist will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to manage and coordinate the care of clients in crisis, ensuring effective use of community resources and adherence to external agency requirements. This role is crucial in preparing clients for successful transitions back into their communities following treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments at client admission to identify needs and collaboratively establish goals.
  • Maintain engagement with clients throughout their treatment journey to address essential needs and facilitate progress towards discharge goals.
  • Provide education on behavioral health, promote healthy coping strategies, and support skill development to ensure high-quality, person-centered care.
  • Assist clients in creating aftercare plans, ensuring they have the necessary resources for continued support post-discharge.
  • Perform follow-up check-ins with all clients discharged from crisis services within 24 hours.
  • Maintain accurate case files and documentation in accordance with agency policies, ensuring timely submission by the end of each shift.
  • Uphold client confidentiality in compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Utilize a trauma-informed, client-centered approach while managing diverse emotional responses from clients.
  • Collaborate with other crisis service team members to address client needs, including crisis intervention and mobile support.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community resources to foster a supportive environment for clients.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.
  2. Understanding of cultural diversity and its impact on service delivery.
  3. Interpersonal skills that foster teamwork and collaboration.
  4. In-depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards.
  5. Familiarity with behaviors and emotions associated with addiction and mental health crises.
  6. Knowledge of community resources and referral options to meet clients' varied needs.
  7. Proficient in documenting case management notes, preferably within an electronic health record system.
  8. Competence in using standard office equipment and software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  9. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  10. Capacity to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  11. Attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  12. Ability to maintain professional relationships across all organizational levels.
  13. Familiarity with community support services, including mental health, housing, employment, and childcare resources.
  14. Ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
  15. Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain certification).

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. High School diploma or GED - Required.
  2. Minimum of 1 year of experience in addiction or mental health services - Required.
  3. Case Management Certification (or willingness to obtain certification) - Preferred.
  4. Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) or Certified Family Peer Support Worker (CFPSW) - Preferred.
  5. Valid driver's license without restrictions.
  6. Bi/multi-lingual skills - Preferred.
