Job Summary

This position plays a crucial role in supporting the Department of Geography at the University of New Mexico. As a Program Coordinator, Graduate Programs, you will work closely with the Department Administrator, Graduate Program Director, and Undergraduate Program Director to ensure the smooth operation of graduate programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of the PhD program in collaboration with New Mexico State University.
  • Conduct student outreach and recruitment, including website maintenance.
  • Maintain correspondence with prospective graduate students.
  • Assist graduate students, faculty, and staff in navigating administrative systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist faculty and graduate students in establishing contracts and meeting requirements for graduate assistantships.
  • Track degree progress for graduate students and compile student data for departmental research and reporting purposes.
  • Schedule and plan student recruitment, orientation, and graduation events.
Additional Duties
  • Provide backup and support to the Department Administrator.
  • Purchase and manage departmental resources.
  • Provide customer service to the public, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Schedule rooms and A/V needs for departmental meetings.
  • Issue keycards.
  • Manage course scheduling.
  • Submit requests for IT and facilities support.
  • Supervise student assistants.
  • Attend meetings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Experience in higher education working with faculty, students, staff, and members of the general public.
  • Experience in web design and upkeep of websites.
  • Experience with administrative record-keeping within computer applications and with printed materials.
  • Experience designing printed materials suitable for student recruitment and public outreach.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate special events.
  • Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.
