Job Summary:

Gallaudet University seeks a tenure-track faculty member in the Speech-Language Program within the Department of Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences. The successful candidate will teach graduate speech-language pathology courses, conduct research in their area(s) of expertise, and engage in service to the program, University, and profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in the graduate speech-language pathology program with opportunities to teach other courses supported by the Department of Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences.
  • Advises MS SLP graduate students, mentors thesis students, and serves on or chairs Ph.D. dissertation work.
  • Engage in research in the candidate's area(s) of expertise.
  • Participate in service to the program, University, and profession.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and participate in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements annually.

Requirements:

  • An earned terminal research degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences or a closely related field or an ABD candidate with expectations of dissertation completion within one year of hire.
  • ASHA CCC-SLP (or substantial clinical and clinical-teaching experience)
  • Willingness to learn American Sign Language (ASL).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in child language development and disorders, literacy, early intervention, pediatric speech sound disorders, fluency, AAC, and/or cultural and linguistic diversity preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in research, teaching, and/or clinical work in culturally and linguistically diverse settings.
  • Ability to communicate in ASL.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with contemporary trends in service delivery in speech-language pathology.
  • Familiarity with contemporary trends in teaching at the graduate level.
  • Strong research skills to continue or establish a line of research in the discipline.
  • Flexibility in teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents, and groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Additional Position Details:

  • Open until filled
  • This position is expected to report to work on campus.
  • Rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Appointment will be for the regular nine-month academic year.
