JOB SUMMARY:
  • Prepares the surgical environment by ensuring all necessary equipment is ready and operational.
  • Assists during surgical procedures by anticipating the needs of the surgical team, managing specimen collection, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Facilitates room turnover by organizing and restocking supplies and instruments efficiently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-operative Duties:
  • Assists in the setup of the operating room.
  • Confirms the functionality of all equipment prior to surgical procedures.
  • Organizes surgical cases in a systematic manner.
Intra-operative Duties:
  • Maintains sterile techniques throughout all surgical procedures.
  • Proactively addresses the needs of the surgical team.
  • Independently manages specialized surgical tasks.
  • Ensures thorough documentation and accurate specimen handling.
Post-operative Duties:
  • Assists with the turnover of the surgical room.
  • Handles the decontamination of instruments in accordance with protocols.
  • Returns all supplies and equipment to their designated locations.
  • Restocks procedural suites at the end of each shift.
  • Performs additional relevant duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior clinical experience in patient care is preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical or Cardiovascular Technician Program is advantageous.
CERTIFICATIONS:
  • BLS certification is mandatory.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong understanding of clinical standards and best practices.
  • Knowledge of age-specific patient care requirements.
INTERACTIONS:

Internal:
  • Works collaboratively with various departments to ensure comprehensive patient care.
External:
  • Engages with patients and their families to provide support and information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must maintain good physical condition to perform job duties.
  • Job requires walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and transporting patients.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and motor skills are essential.
  • Effective communication skills are necessary for interactions with patients and staff.
  • Sharp near vision is required for monitoring readings and gauges.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Operates in a well-lit and ventilated facility.
  • High exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Handles hazardous materials during sterilization processes.
  • Work hours may vary, including irregular shifts.
