Position Summary:

This senior-level role is pivotal in delivering actuarial services to our multiemployer clientele, necessitating a proven track record in consulting for plan sponsors and trustees. The ideal candidate will be an authority in their field, striving towards national recognition. This role encompasses business development and potential management duties.

This position serves as the sector leader for our multiemployer team.

Key Responsibilities – Consulting Actuary:

The following duties exemplify the work expected from successful candidates. Not all candidates will engage in every function regularly.

  1. Lead client teams, oversee project management, and act as the primary contact for clients.
  2. Support Senior Consulting Actuaries on substantial client engagements.
  3. Accountable for billing on client projects.
  4. Guide junior staff in meeting deadlines while providing mentorship.
  5. Ensure adherence to internal quality control and peer review standards.
  6. Oversee the creation of proposals, publications, and presentations.
  7. Stay updated on legislative changes impacting single employer, multiemployer, public sector pension plans, and/or PBGC.
Key Responsibilities – Sector Leader:

The following duties exemplify the work expected from successful candidates in their sector.

Managing Day-to-Day Operations (70%):

  1. Provide consulting and client relationship management that aligns with clients' business objectives and challenges.
  2. Assist in budgeting and forecasting for the sector.
  3. Engage with professional organizations to enhance technical expertise.
  4. Support new business initiatives.
  5. Identify innovative strategies for clients.
  6. Spot opportunities for operational efficiencies.
  7. Enhance Bolton's reputation within the sector.
  8. Offer technical assistance to colleagues.
  9. Support talent leaders with client staffing assignments.
  10. Manage projects to meet or exceed client expectations.
  11. Achieve personal billing, revenue, sales, and recovery targets.
  12. Advise leadership on sector-specific matters.
  13. Collaborate with other practices for cross-selling opportunities.
  14. Work with fellow sector leaders to implement best practices across the retirement division.
  15. Continuously develop a personal brand within the profession.
  16. Create and execute tactical plans for the sector.

Managing Sector Development (30%):

  1. Assist Growth, Talent, and Technical leaders with sector-specific initiatives.
  2. Foster a supportive work environment that promotes employee growth and development.
  3. Contribute to new business development efforts, including participation in industry conferences and publication writing.
  4. Provide technical insights to the technical leader.
Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must effectively perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; at least 15 years of substantial actuarial experience, including valuations, assumption setting, experience analysis, plan design, strategic planning, and benefit program software; a minimum of 10 years as a leading consulting actuary.

Experience with multiemployer clients is essential.

Certificates and Licenses:

Enrolled Actuary certification is required. Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries is preferred.

Communication Skills:

Ability to interpret complex documents and respond to sensitive inquiries. Proficient in writing speeches and articles with innovative techniques. Capable of delivering persuasive presentations on complex topics to top management and boards.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to apply advanced calculus, modern algebra, and statistical theory. Proficient in working with concepts such as limits, rings, and differential equations.

Reasoning Skills:

Ability to apply logical or scientific principles to a variety of problems. Capable of dealing with complex variables and abstract concepts.

Computer Skills:

Proficient in personal computer applications, including email, record keeping, databases, word processing, and spreadsheets.

Project Management:

Strong skills in time and project management, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversee the selection, training, development, and appraisal of personnel.

Travel Requirements:

Minimal overnight travel may be required.
