Job Summary:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Board Certified/Eligible neurologist with a specific interest and experience in Movement Disorders and neuromodulation techniques such as deep brain stimulation and focused ultrasound ablation.

This is a fixed-term appointment at the Assistant to Full Professor level for a fellowship trained movement disorder neurologist.

The candidate would join a team of movement disorder specialists in the Department of Neurology, with the goal of joining the team of subspecialists offering ambulatory and intraoperative support for planning and programming surgical options for movement disorders.

UNC is a designated Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence employing a comprehensive approach to patients with movement disorders, including a team of nurse practitioner, social worker, nurse and research coordinator who are part of the program.

This position involves predominantly outpatient clinical duties focused on patient centered care and operative planning/monitoring as well as teaching residents, fellows, and medical students.

Attending on the inpatient neurology service 2- 8 weeks per year is a common requirement for clinical faculty positions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in the care of patients with movement disorders, having undergone fellowship training which includes 1) surgical planning of available targets for symptomatic management of movement disorders; 2) intraoperative micro-electrode recording experience; 3) programming of deep brain stimulation devices.
  • Teach residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Attend on the inpatient neurology service 2- 8 weeks per year.

Requirements:

  • Qualified candidates must possess MD or MD/PhD or equivalent.
  • Completed ACGME certified Neurology residency.
  • Board Certified/Eligible Neurologist with fellowship training in movement disorders.
  • Board-eligible or board-certified/eligible in Neurology and able to obtain/hold a North Carolina medical license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience planning for focused ultrasound ablation is preferred but not required.
