Fire Protection Systems Technician

POSITION OVERVIEW

Sciens Building Solutions is in search of a skilled Fire Protection Systems Technician to deliver comprehensive installation services for various fire sprinkler systems and their components. This pivotal role demands meticulous attention to detail, particularly in adherence to NFPA standards for fire sprinkler systems. Effective communication and problem-solving abilities are essential for collaborating with Designers, Project Managers, and General Contractors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret and analyze blueprints to facilitate the installation of prefabricated fire sprinkler piping.
  • Execute new installations, retrofits, and tenant improvement projects.
  • Utilize tools such as saws and pipe threaders to cut, thread, and groove piping according to specifications.
  • Coordinate with various onsite contractors and trades to address and resolve coordination conflicts.
  • Assist in job scheduling and progress management efficiently and cost-effectively, maintaining a strong focus on quality.
  • Modify designs as necessary to ensure compliance with relevant codes.
  • Provide support and expertise to fellow field installers and helpers.
  • Adhere to industry-standard procedures and Sciens safety policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the Fire and Life Safety sector.
  • Currently enrolled in a Sprinkler Apprentice Program.
  • Familiarity with wet, dry, and pre-action systems, including backflows and fire pumps.
  • Strong understanding of all components of sprinkler systems and their functionality.
  • Experience with underground piping installation is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Intermediate knowledge of NFPA 13 code requirements.
  • Ability to read and implement fire system design drawings and documentation, including zoning.
  • Proficient in using trade-specific tools for efficient and safe pipe fitting.
  • Capability to train others in the safe and efficient use of trade tools.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and maintain a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Certification in backflow inspection and repair is preferred.
  • Actively pursuing state-required certifications.
  • Possession of job or site-specific equipment certifications as determined by the business.
  • Product-specific certifications as required by the business.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Customer-oriented with strong project and people management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication abilities.
  • Physically capable of performing the demanding tasks of the trade, including frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds; able to work from heights and climb ladders; standing and walking for most of the workday.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for overnight assignments as necessary.
  • Ability to pass background checks and pre-employment drug screenings.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
