Job Summary

Project FIND is seeking a skilled Handyman Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing minor building and grounds repairs, as well as preventive maintenance of our apartment buildings.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with electrical repairs in community areas, including lights and laundry.
  • Ensure mechanical equipment is in working order and fixed as necessary.
  • Complete general building cleaning and maintenance.
  • Install and replace floors, stairs, and piping as needed.
  • Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, roofs, and other parts of the building.
  • Maintain trash and recycling receptacles around the facility.
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the building, including sweeping, mopping floors and stairs, dusting desks, tables, chairs, and other furniture.
  • Strip, wax, and buff floors.
  • Remove garbage from trash cans and compactors and place out for pickup based on the sanitation schedule.
  • Maintain garbage rooms, trash cans, and dumpsters and ensure they are in a clean, sanitary condition.
  • Sweep and clean sidewalks and planters, hose sidewalks with a pressure washer.
  • During the winter, remove snow and ice and spread de-ice to prevent slipping.
  • Clean rooms by discarding old furniture, beds, and other debris.
  • Prepare rooms for painting, paint rooms and bathrooms.
  • Help to make rooms move-in ready.
Qualifications
  • Basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical knowledge. The ideal candidate will be skilled in a wide range of areas, but will also be able to recognize when a repair is outside of their skill set and make a recommendation to their supervisor.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to safely use common power and hand tools.
  • HVAC knowledge and repair skills.
  • Experience installing and replacing plumbing systems.
  • Strong communication skills with property management and tenants.
  • Self-starter with good time management skills.
  • Ability to sit, walk, and stand for numerous hours.
  • Ability to lift packages and other items up to 10 pounds.
  • Have an understanding, appreciation, and commitment to the philosophy and mission of Project FIND.
  • Establish and maintain polite, professional, and effective working relationships with all contacts during the performance of duties.
  • Completion of relevant training program.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Be creative and flexible.
  • Show initiative and be responsible for follow through.
Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Project FIND participates in E-Verify, which confirms employment authorization through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security. The E-Verify process is completed in conjunction with the Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification. E-Verify is not used as a tool to pre-screen candidates.
