Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to work in the Pediatric Float unit at UW Health University Hospital, recognized as the leading healthcare facility in Wisconsin. This role involves caring for pediatric patients ranging from newborns to young adults.

Nurses will have the opportunity to float across various units within the American Family Children's Hospital, potentially including General Care (GC), Intermediate Care (IMC), and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions.
  • Manage cases involving critical conditions such as acute head injuries, severe neurological disorders, pulmonary issues, cardiac anomalies, organ transplants, multi-system organ failure, and ECMO.
Qualifications
  • Experience in general pediatrics and pediatric ICU is essential.
  • Willingness to work in ICU, IMC, and GC units is required.
  • Preferred experience with tracheostomy care.
  • Must have completed two years of acute care experience within the last three years.
  • Experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma center or a hospital of similar size is necessary.
  • Completion of a prior traveler assignment of 13 weeks is required.
  • Two recent references from supervisors or managers in the last two years are needed.
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience is mandatory.
  • Passing the UW Health Telemetry test is required prior to starting the assignment.
Scheduling Information

Traveling nurses will be prioritized for floating to units that care for children up to one year of age, based on their skills and experience. Shifts may be scheduled across multiple units depending on staffing needs.

If the primary unit has no further requirements, shifts will be reassigned to ensure the completion of the contract.
