We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to work in the Pediatric Float unit at UW Health University Hospital, recognized as the leading healthcare facility in Wisconsin. This role involves caring for pediatric patients ranging from newborns to young adults within a 21-bed unit.
Nurses in this position will be expected to float across various units, potentially including General Care (GC), Intermediate Care (IMC), and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) settings at the American Family Children's Hospital. Experience in floating to different units is advantageous.
Patient Care ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive care for a diverse range of medical and surgical conditions, including:
- General pediatric care
- ICU care for patients with acute head injuries
- Management of critical neurological disorders
- Care for pulmonary diseases and cardiac anomalies
- Support for organ transplantation and multi-system organ failure
- ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) management
- Experience in general pediatric nursing and pediatric ICU is essential.
- Willingness to work in ICU, IMC, and GC units is required.
- Trach care experience is preferred.
- Two years of acute care experience within the last three years is mandatory.
- Experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma center or a similar-sized hospital is necessary.
- Completion of a previous traveler assignment of 13 weeks is required.
- Two references from recent supervisors or managers from the last two years are needed.
- Basic Arrhythmia experience is essential.
- Passing the UW Health Telemetry test is required prior to starting the assignment (not applicable for clinic positions).
Traveling nurses will be prioritized for floating to units that care for children up to one year of age, based on their competency and experience. Shifts may be scheduled across multiple units depending on current staffing needs, and if the primary unit no longer requires assistance, shifts will be reassigned to ensure contract completion.
