Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team at Beam. As a Behavioral Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct support to students with special needs, promoting their social, emotional, and academic growth.
• Participate in activities planned by the school district staff, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
• Assist in the preparation and development of instructional training activities and materials, aligning with the school's curriculum.
• Collaborate with school district staff to maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment, promoting organization and efficiency.
• Utilize effective teaching and behavior management techniques to create a positive learning atmosphere.
• Under direct supervision, assist with assessing student needs, providing valuable insights to the school district staff.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administration, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
• Reinforce lessons and activities with small groups of learners, promoting academic growth and social skills.
• Assist with crisis intervention and discipline, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all.
• Participate in program planning meetings, contributing to the development of effective educational programs.
• Perform other job-related work as required, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalency; or proof of an A.A. degree, 48 college units; or pass the Paraeducator Exam.
• Recent experience in working with groups, such as youth groups, child centers, or playgrounds, and/or experience requiring organizational skills is desirable.
• Ability to understand and anticipate the needs of children, operate classroom technology equipment, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with children and adults.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality, demonstrating competence and assisting with academic skills, such as reading and math.
• Communicate orally with correct language usage, understanding and following oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of the general needs and behavior patterns of children, safe work practices, and correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Ability to work independently, make decisions within established guidelines, and adapt to individual needs of school staff and students.
• Identify and respond quickly to emergency situations in a calm and resourceful manner, establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Working Environment:

• Occasional exposure to the sun, occasional wetness, dust, and occasional exposure to childhood diseases.
• Ability to commute or relocate to the Montebello Unified School District, with a reliable schedule of mornings, Monday to Friday, with no weekends.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students, school district staff, and administration, while performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
