Optical Transmission Scientist

OFS Fitel, a global leader in optical fiber solutions, is seeking an experienced Optical Transmission Scientist to join our team in Somerset, NJ. As a key member of our division, you will play a crucial role in designing and testing the transmission behavior and performance of fiber-based technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct innovative research in optical fiber technology, focusing on data transmission for both data transport and optical sensing.
  • Conceive, design, assemble, and test the transmission behavior and performance of fiber-based technology.
  • Contribute to external publications and generate intellectual property, while interacting with customers.
  • Perform other related duties as required by management.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in waveguide photonics, transmission theory, systems architecture, and related disciplines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, preferably demonstrated by past publications or presentations.
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience working with optical components and optical fibers.
  • Coursework and/or research experience in photonics and optics, preferably optical fibers.
  • Lab automation and computer skills.
  • Ability to understand and perform optical simulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel.
  • Maintain discretion when working with confidential and proprietary information.
  • Strict adherence to Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conform to all aspects of OFS' Standards of Conduct document.
