Role Overview: We are seeking a part-time faculty member in Physics. The ideal candidate will align with the Colleges' commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student body.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver college-level courses in physics, demonstrating a strong interest and capability to teach both lecture and laboratory components.
  • Assist in the revision of curricula and the development of new courses, provide consultation to students during office and lab hours, and maintain proficiency in current technologies.
  • Participate as a member of division and college committees and fulfill other professional responsibilities as required by contract and institutional needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Master's degree or higher in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics OR a Bachelor's degree in physics or astronomy combined with a Master's degree or higher in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics OR the equivalent.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Recent successful experience in teaching or preparation to teach college-level physics courses.
  • Familiarity with effective teaching methodologies.
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission and objectives of the community college.
  • Ability to utilize current technologies relevant to the teaching of physics.
  • Capability to develop and implement teaching strategies that promote collaboration and active engagement, encouraging students to become independent, creative learners with advanced critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to organize and present materials in ways that accommodate students with varying abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences.
  • Competence in developing instructional learning outcomes and methods for assessing student achievement.
  • Ability to effectively teach both theoretical concepts and practical applications of the subject matter.
  • Commitment to the goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum.
