KINESIOLOGY, ADJUNCT FACULTY

The Kinesiology & Public Health Department within the College of Science and Mathematics is seeking applications for the Kinesiology and Physical Activity adjunct faculty pool. Positions are available based on departmental needs during the academic year. Rank and compensation will be aligned with qualifications, experience, and time commitment.

Responsibilities may encompass teaching undergraduate Kinesiology, general education, and/or physical activity courses. Assignments may include a combination of the following:
  • Physical activity courses such as weight training, yoga, pilates, group fitness, swimming, jogging, fitness walking, ultimate disc, and various team & individual sports;
  • General education courses in psychology of injury; sport and gender; sports, media & American popular culture.
  • Kinesiology undergraduate courses including adapted physical activity, first aid & CPR; functional anatomy, managing exercise & health programs, motor development; orientation to kinesiology, personal and group fitness instruction, school PE and health methods.
  • Laboratory courses in adapted physical activity, biomechanics, electrocardiography, exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, motor learning and control, and introduction to research methods in kinesiology.
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are determined by professional experience and educational background as assessed by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are appointed at the Lecturer A or B rank. The classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,007-$6,359
Lecturer B: $5,925-$12,594
Lecturer C: $6,500-$13,831
Lecturer D: $8,184-$14,487

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • For physical activity lecturers: A Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or a related field is required.
  • For kinesiology undergraduate and laboratory lecturers: A Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or a related field is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • For kinesiology undergraduate, general education, and laboratory lecturers: A Master's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sport Psychology, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Certification in personal training, fitness instruction, swimming instruction, strength and conditioning, exercise specialist, and/or registered clinical exercise physiologist.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in college teaching and/or relevant industry experience and appropriate certification.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Kinesiology and Public Health is a significant academic unit within the College of Science and Mathematics, offering a BS degree in Kinesiology and a BS degree in Public Health to approximately 500 undergraduate students. The Department also provides courses to fulfill general education requirements and physical activity courses for all students.
