Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a skilled School Nurse to provide high-quality healthcare services to students in a school setting. As a School Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering student/client care and contracted services in accordance with Amergis' philosophy, standards, policies, and physician orders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process to plan, implement, and evaluate students' care needs.
  • Demonstrate the provision of skilled nursing care in accordance with prescribed orders and Individualized Health Plans (IHPs).
  • Perform interventions, treatments, and medications administration according to identified priorities outlined in the IHP.
  • Monitor and document the effectiveness of interventions, treatments, and medications.
  • Complete documentation per client expectations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate services as requested between the school, local health agencies, and other community resources to meet the needs of the student.
  • Communicate with school district personnel about students' plans of care/IHPs.
  • Notify District School Nurse/Amergis Supervisor/Parent/Physician as outlined in the IHP regarding changes in the student's condition, physician notification to obtain necessary orders, and other relevant information.
  • Collaborate with school/education personnel/other health agencies as requested to design and meet students' healthcare needs.
  • Evaluate and assure student safety at all times.
  • Adhere to Amergis Healthcare and school district policies.
  • Maintain accuracy in student health records.
  • Support professional practice by observing the following:
    • Nurse Practice Act
    • Standards of Nursing Practice
    • Standards of Patient Care
    • Standards of accrediting body (The Joint Commission)
    • State laws
    • Educational Codes and Federal Laws as described in the ADA and IDEA
    • Patient Bill of Rights
    • Amergis Healthcare and school district policies
  • At the request of the school district, participate in student care conferences/Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • LPN/LVNs should direct questions regarding orders and changes in condition to a Supervising RN (DN and/or Clinical Supervisor).
  • Perform other duties as assigned/necessary.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited registered, practical, or vocational nursing program.
  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical, Licensed Vocational, or Registered Nurse in state(s) where practicing.
  • One year of professional experience, preferred.
  • Complies with accepted professional standards and practice.
  • Willingness to participate in skill advancement, if applicable.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program.
  • Current CPR.
  • PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current Registered Nurses (RN - BSN) license for the state in which the nurse practices.
  • Minimum (2) years of school clinic experience.
  • Examples:
    • Pediatric floor at a hospital
    • Pediatric clinic
    • Pediatric home health
    • Family Clinic
  • Must be comfortable with gtube, trach, vents, diabetic peds.
  • Full command, verbal and written, of the English language.
  • Current Health Certificate (if applicable).
  • Current PPD or Chest X-Ray.
  • One year prior Registered Nurses (RN - BSN) experience preferred.
  • Current BLS card.
  • Successful completion of screening tests for the clinical specialty area(s) in which the nurse practices.
