Job Title: Supplier Development Engineer - Machining

At SpaceX, we are pushing the boundaries of space technology and exploration. We are seeking a highly skilled Supplier Development Engineer - Machining to join our team.

Responsibilities:
  • Supplier Quality Management: Analyze supplier quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and pinpoint systemic performance gaps and root causes.
  • Supplier Sourcing: Collaborate with the procurement team to strategically source parts matched with supplier competencies.
  • Production Part Approval Process: Implement and monitor the production part approval process with selected suppliers.
  • Supplier Communication: Assure supplier understanding of product and submission requirements.
  • Process Controls: Develop and approve process controls to control critical characteristics.
  • Technical Product Improvements: Recommend technical product improvements to reduce risk and potential defect opportunities.
  • Receiving Inspection: Provide support for receiving inspection by preparing and maintaining inspection plans.
  • Supplier Manufacturing Processes: Review and assess supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems. Provide feedback as appropriate on manufacturing methods and technologies. Manage supplier improvement plans.
  • Supplier Quality Improvement: Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a quality system, or other technical support as required.
  • Liaison Role: Function as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and provide technical support.
  • Key Skills: Demonstrate innovation, technical excellence, attention to detail, self-direction, and courage. Drive for results and customer satisfaction. Collaborate with teams, lead projects, and continuously drive improvement in the supply base.
Requirements:
  • Education: Completed bachelor's degree in an engineering field from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience with manufacturing processes related to machined components/structures or machining processes.
Preferred Skills and Experiences:
  • Manufacturing and Inspection: Experience with manufacturing and inspection of raw materials, machined parts, fabricated components, or electrical assemblies.
  • Quality Management Systems: Experience with quality management systems standards (AS9100 and ISO 9001).
  • SQA Processes: Demonstrated knowledge of SQA processes, including PPAP, APQP, FAIR, etc.
  • Technical Capabilities: Technical capabilities, including knowledge of 2D blueprints and model drawings.
  • GD&T: Skills in GD&T for reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Problem-Solving: Disciplined approach to problem-solving, including 8D.
  • Communication: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and report writing. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise cross-functionally, internally and externally, make presentations to team members and management.
  • Lean Concepts: Knowledge of lean concepts.
  • Statistical Techniques: Experience with sharing information and influencing others. Knowledge of statistical techniques and methods, including design of experiments, Six Sigma, etc.
  • MRP or ERP Systems: Experience with MRP or ERP systems.
Additional Requirements:
  • Travel: Position requires long hours and some nights and weekends when required. Ability to travel up to 60-75% of the workweek.
