School Overview

Rochester Prep manages six schools that cater to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. We prioritize building authentic relationships between educators and students, supported by effective school systems and an engaging instructional model that fosters both academic and personal growth. Position Summary

As a Special Education Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing accommodations for students with diverse learning needs. You will advocate for these students, believing that tailored instruction and support services enhance their academic success. Your responsibilities will include providing academic, emotional, and physical support while maintaining high expectations for all learners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instructional Duties

  • Adapt and differentiate an inclusive curriculum that celebrates diversity.
  • Collaborate with families and Special Education teams to create 504 Plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that ensure appropriate accommodations.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive classroom environment that empowers students to become independent learners.

2. Special Education Responsibilities

  • Work alongside general education teachers, school leaders, and families to assess student work and ensure compliance with IEPs.
  • Collect data on academic progress and prepare goals for annual IEP meetings.
  • Deliver instruction through various methods, including pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one settings, employing strategies to differentiate learning for all students.

3. School Culture Development

  • Establish positive relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and understood.
  • Engage with families to provide necessary resources that support their child's educational journey.
  • Participate in professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • Contribute to weekly school-wide meetings to foster community, uphold core values, and promote student achievement.
  • Collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.

  • Required Experience:
    • A background in impacting K-12 students in urban settings (1-2 years preferred).
    • Academic expertise in Special Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, or related fields.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required prior to employment. Certification is not mandatory for hiring, but candidates must meet New York state certification eligibility and enroll in a teacher preparation program if they do not hold a degree in education.

Compensation: The starting salary for this role in Rochester ranges from $50,000 to $64,700, influenced by factors such as relevant experience, education, certifications, and tenure.
