The RN is responsible for assessing, implementing, evaluating, and managing the care plan for patients undergoing Pre/Post General Pediatric, Plastic, Orthopedic Surgeries, Chronic Ventilator, Trauma, ENT, Urology & Med/Surg.
This role supports and adheres to the quality standards of a Magnet designated institution and the Patient Bill of Rights, operating under the guidance of the Nursing Manager/Director.
Minimum Qualifications- CPR: Healthcare Provider certification.
- RN licensure in the State of Florida.
- Completion of PALS certification within two years of employment.
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including head-to-toe evaluations, vital signs monitoring, dressing changes, suctioning, feeding, bathing, and repositioning.
- Review patient admission history and ensure accurate completion of the discharge planning process in accordance with departmental and institutional policies.
- Prepare patients for transfer and effectively communicate their condition, history, and progress to the receiving nurse.
- Relay critical findings and changes in patient conditions to the physician and other relevant disciplines involved in the child's care.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to plan, implement, and document the care plan, ensuring safe and efficient patient care.
- Assist the medical team with specialized procedures such as lumbar punctures, biopsies, IV monitoring, surgical site management, and specimen collection, while promptly addressing medical equipment needs.
- Prepare for discharge planning in accordance with departmental and institutional guidelines.
- Follow physician orders and administer medications as prescribed, adhering to the six rights of medication administration.
- Provide patient information and ensure effective handoff communication during shift changes and patient reassignments.
- Engage in multidisciplinary team rounds during daily care planning as appropriate.
- Independently access the electronic health record per hospital policy and ensure accurate and timely documentation.
- Communicate with patients and families to review the care plan, soliciting input and addressing any concerns with the physician.
- Educate patients and families regarding disease processes and post-treatment home care, including medication, treatments, pain management, discharge, safety, and skin care.
- Promote a safe working environment by consistently delivering high-quality care in line with hospital policies, conducting prevention rounds, and promptly addressing identified concerns.
- Assess all body systems to ensure safe, effective, and efficient care delivery, focusing on minimizing medication errors, preventing falls, and reducing procedural pain.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with effective time management.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Commitment to career development, with national certification preferred within five years of hire.
- BSN Degree or current enrollment in a BSN program.
- Trauma certification is preferred.
- Previous nursing experience in a Pediatric healthcare setting or in an Operating Room/Surgical Services inpatient nursing unit is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Capability to apply principles of evidence-based practice, analytical thinking, and service excellence in nursing practice.
- Analyze and interpret data to inform patient care decisions.
- Willingness to be on-call as needed.
- Flexibility to float to other units within the scope of competency.
