Position Summary

This role is a hybrid position within the University of Maryland Medical System, located in Baltimore. The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is a premier academic health system dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care while integrating discovery and innovation into everyday practice. Collaborating closely with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Nursing, UMMS plays a crucial role in training the next generation of healthcare professionals. As a comprehensive network of care, UMMS delivers 25% of all hospital services across Maryland, operating 11 hospitals and numerous urgent care centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement HR strategies that align with business goals for designated areas, ensuring that HR services are effective and add value.
  • Provide consulting support to foster a performance-driven culture, addressing performance management, employee development, and recognition initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary resource for leadership and staff on various HR matters, including performance management, workforce engagement, and compensation.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance employee engagement and develop actionable plans to address workforce challenges.
  • Lead the design and execution of special HR projects and initiatives, including organizational development and change management.
  • Engage in activities that promote a positive workplace culture, collaborating with represented staff as necessary.
  • Oversee and participate in the resolution of employee grievances and administrative processes related to employment.
  • May assist with recruitment and other HR functions as needed during the transition to a Corporate Shared Services HR model.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of progressive HR experience, particularly in employee and labor relations within healthcare or human services.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree and professional HR certification (PHR or SPHR) are preferred.

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Strong relationship-building and consulting abilities, adept at navigating the complexities of a growing organization.
