This role is a hybrid position within the University of Maryland Medical System, located in Baltimore. Collaborating closely with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Nursing, UMMS plays a crucial role in training the next generation of healthcare professionals. As a comprehensive network of care, UMMS delivers 25% of all hospital services across Maryland, operating 11 hospitals and numerous urgent care centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement HR strategies that align with business goals for designated areas, ensuring that HR services are effective and add value.
  • Provide consulting support to foster a performance-driven culture, addressing performance management, employee development, and recognition initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary resource for leadership and staff on various HR matters, including performance management, workforce engagement, and compensation.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance employee engagement and develop actionable plans to address workforce challenges.
  • Lead the design and execution of special HR projects and initiatives, including organizational development and change management.
  • Engage in activities that promote a positive workplace culture, collaborating with represented staff as necessary.
  • Oversee and participate in the resolution of employee grievances and administrative processes related to employment.
  • May assist with recruitment and other HR functions as needed during the transition to a Corporate Shared Services HR model.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of progressive HR experience, particularly in employee and labor relations within healthcare or human services.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree and professional HR certification (PHR or SPHR) are preferred.

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Strong relationship-building and consulting abilities, adept at navigating the complexities of a growing organization.
