Braselton Surgery Center is a modern ambulatory surgery facility providing innovative surgical options to patients in our community. Our skilled surgeons specialize in various fields and offer same-day procedures, allowing patients to return home for a quicker recovery.
The center offers services in specialties such as Orthopedics, General Surgery, Urology, Podiatry, and Gastroenterology.
Job Summary
The Dual, OR Specialty Nurse acts as a Coordinator and serves as the clinical authority for the OR service line. This role ensures prompt, safe, and effective care for surgical patients in collaboration with the surgical team, maintaining clear communication with staff, surgeons, anesthesia providers, ancillary departments, and leadership. The nurse anticipates the needs of individual patients and surgeons, providing daily oversight of staff assigned to specialty procedure rooms. The Dual, OR Specialty Nurse routinely assesses and implements systems to enhance service line quality and acts as a liaison among physicians, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams. This position involves triaging patients based on acuity in collaboration with surgical and anesthesia colleagues, making staffing decisions based on licensure, competency, availability, and patient acuity. Timely communication of relevant information to improve patient care is essential. The nurse is a professional member of PNGC, providing feedback on issues discussed in meetings and participating in PNGC councils as appropriate. Active involvement in Unit Council is expected to help improve nursing-sensitive indicators, patient experience data, and quality metrics. A positive work culture that reflects professional nursing practice is promoted.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Licensure or other certifications: Must be licensed to practice as a RN in Georgia. National certification in a clinical specialty within two (2) years of hire is required (CNOR preferred).
- Educational Requirements: Associate's Degree.
- Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the Operating Room. Ability to precept and circulate is necessary.
- Other: Membership in a professional organization within three months of hire into the role.
- Preferred Licensure or other certifications:
- Preferred Educational Requirements: A degree in Nursing (either BSN or MSN). A BSN is strongly encouraged within five (5) years.

- Required competency is reviewed annually and documented on the Required Competency Document.
- Promotes quality and professional nursing care by holding staff accountable and assessing performance. Assists the Nurse Manager in staff performance evaluations and actively seeks ways to mentor staff. Monitors attendance and administers discipline, including coaching and counseling. Assists with monitoring productivity and adjusts staffing based on case load.
- Ensures equipment, supplies, and resources are available for optimal patient care. Coordinates the availability of specialty items for scheduled cases and checks case carts to confirm that all necessary supplies are assembled prior to scheduled times. Communicates with OR scheduling to ensure cases are scheduled appropriately and adjusts as necessary. Creates, evaluates, and updates physician preference cards in a timely manner to promote safe and efficient care delivery.
- Promotes fiscal responsibility by identifying future capital equipment needs or replacements. Identifies cost-saving initiatives and monitors equipment repairs. Implements process changes to decrease repair costs and educates staff on proper equipment handling. Collaborates with the OR Nurse Manager, physicians, and staff to identify budget needs required to support clinical demands of specialty procedures.
- Develops relationships by participating in Perioperative Services committees, communicating challenges, and initiating improvements. Acts as a liaison between physicians, anesthesia providers, vendors, staff members, and leadership. Actively participates in corporate committees and task forces as assigned, collaborating with peers across the health system.
- Develops the competency of personnel within the service line by providing, creating, and identifying ongoing training needs for employees, including orientation and in-services. Prepares and conducts professional and technical training programs for both current and new personnel. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager/Educator to plan, educate, and evaluate appropriate learning experiences for all staff levels. Assists with staff rotations through all procedures/service lines, ensuring all competencies are met.
- Ensures regulatory compliance by working with Sterile Processing, Materials Management, Biomed, and Operating Room Equipment Technicians to maintain routine inventories of sterile and non-sterile specialty supplies and equipment. Investigates complaints and/or non-compliance with policies, initiates follow-up actions as warranted, and communicates these issues to the OR Nurse Manager. Assists with the creation and revision of policies and procedures.
- Provides quality service by being competent in circulating all major procedures within surgical services and demonstrating the capability to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment unique to surgical services.
- Assists in developing staff assignments based on patient acuity and staff competency levels. Collaborates with the OR Nurse Manager to appropriately staff procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Acts as a professional and clinical resource, maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of the Dual, OR Specialty Role. Role models professional behavior in communications and demeanor, ensuring compliance with established department standards, objectives, performance improvement programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
