Job Title: Supervising Housing Attorney

Job Summary:

Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Housing Attorney to join our Legal Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising housing attorneys' work in individual housing matters, maintaining a small independent caseload of housing cases, and providing support and mentorship to staff attorneys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor housing attorneys, providing guidance on case strategy, litigation schedules, and best practices.
  • Coordinate trial dates and second-seat entry-level attorneys at motions and trials.
  • Troubleshoot case issues in housing court and provide general court supervision.
  • Maintain a small individual caseload and represent clients through administrative hearings, trials, and appeals.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Housing and other members of the Legal Department management team to provide high-quality services.

Requirements:

  • JD and NYS Bar admission.
  • At least 3 years of housing legal experience required.
  • Experience working with similar populations in a community-based setting strongly preferred.
  • Proven mentoring skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills in English, with bilingual skills in English/Spanish preferred.
