Job Title: Senior Attorney

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Attorney to join our team at the New York State Housing Trust Fund Corporation. As a Senior Attorney, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and counsel to our Housing Choice Voucher and Project Based Section 8 Programs.

Job Summary:

The Senior Attorney will be responsible for managing a caseload of Section 8 assignments and related work, providing advice and counsel to HCR's Housing Choice Voucher and Project Based Section 8 Programs, and ensuring compliance with federal rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage case load of Section 8 assignments and related work.
  • Provide advice and counsel to HCR's Housing Choice Voucher and Project Based Section 8 Programs.
  • Assist in updating the Housing Trust Fund Corporation Administrative Plan.
  • Ensure that HTFC's oversight of more than 100,000 apartments receiving Section Project Based Rental Assistance complies with federal rules.
Requirements:
  • Law degree and 2 or more years of law practice. Admitted in New York State.
  • Ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of issues arising under Section 8 of the Housing Act of 1927 as amended.
  • Drafting, research, communication, and policy analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal housing programs.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, outside attorneys, and constituents.
  • Ability to work under pressure on a wide variety of projects on a given day.
  • Excellent analytical and legal writing skills.
