Time Out is a prestigious lifestyle publication dedicated to enriching the experiences of our audience in vibrant urban environments. We seek a well-informed, engaging, and witty Editor for Texas and Southern USA who is deeply connected to the cultural pulse of the region.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to translate contemporary cultural insights into captivating content across various mediums, including text and video. The successful individual will be a quick, precise, and imaginative writer, responsible for producing a variety of articles, reviews, venue listings, guides, and listicles on a weekly basis. They will uphold the editorial standards that have established Time Out as a leader in lifestyle journalism for over five decades, ensuring the independence and integrity of our coverage.
This role will involve overseeing the creation of daily news articles, best-of guides, and freelance contributions across major cities in Texas. Additionally, the editor will commission SEO-focused stories throughout the Southern USA, particularly emphasizing cities like New Orleans and Atlanta. A keen eye for trends and the ability to utilize analytics for editorial planning are essential.
The selected candidate will also be tasked with developing Time Out Texas's social media presence, which includes generating ideas, creating video content, and crafting engaging copy. A self-motivated individual who can work autonomously while collaborating effectively with a small team is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and curate daily editorial content for Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio; develop and write engaging stories on news, culture, and urban life.
- Assign, edit, and produce features and guides focusing on the Southern U.S., particularly New Orleans and Atlanta.
- Recruit and oversee a network of talented local writers.
- Edit a high volume of articles and produce features on our content management system with an emphasis on SEO.
- Contribute to the management and growth of Time Out Texas's social media accounts, creating engaging posts in the Time Out voice.
- Collaborate on local and national features and projects as needed.
- Maintain a comprehensive editorial calendar.
- Write, edit, and produce content that adheres to SEO best practices.
- Ensure all content meets the company's quality and SEO standards.
- Analyze metrics and traffic data to inform editorial strategies.
Qualifications
- 6-8 years of professional experience in writing or editing within a fast-paced online environment.
- Proficiency with content management systems and analytics tools, as well as experience writing for social media platforms.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and interviewing abilities; strong news judgment.
- Proven track record of creating content that engages audiences and drives growth across multiple platforms.
- Familiarity with urban culture, trends, and events throughout the year.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of SEO principles and their application in content creation and promotion.
