Team Overview:
The AI Foundations team is pivotal in actualizing our vision for AI at Capital One. Our initiatives encompass every facet of the research lifecycle, from collaboration with academic institutions to the development of production systems. We engage with product, technology, and business leaders to implement cutting-edge AI solutions in our operations.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to create AI-driven products that transform customer interactions with their finances.
  • Utilize a comprehensive technology stack, including Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, VectorDBs, and more, to uncover insights from vast amounts of numerical and textual data.
  • Develop AI foundation models through all stages of the process, from design to training, evaluation, validation, and deployment.
  • Conduct impactful applied research to integrate the latest AI advancements into next-generation customer experiences.
  • Employ your interpersonal skills to convert complex technical concepts into clear business objectives.

  • Capable of independently pursuing a research agenda and managing long-term projects.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver AI-powered platforms and solutions that enhance customer financial interactions.
  • Oversee the development of AI foundation models through all phases, ensuring successful implementation.
  • Engage in high-impact applied research to advance AI developments for improved customer experiences.
  • Leverage a wide array of technologies to extract valuable insights from extensive datasets.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. with a minimum of 6 years of experience in Applied Research or M.S. with at least 8 years of experience in Applied Research.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Machine Learning, or Applied Mathematics.
  • Experience in large language model training and deployment, with a strong publication record in reputable conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide technical teams in large-scale model training.
  • Contributions to open-source frameworks and significant experience in real-time production environments.
