Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose:

To design and deliver speech-language pathology services for students experiencing speech, voice, or language challenges, under the guidance and supervision of ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists. The role involves providing therapeutic interventions aimed at alleviating or minimizing issues that hinder students' ability to fully engage in their educational experience. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records and documentation as required by the supervising licensed professional.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology from an ASHA accredited institution or
  • Bachelor's degree supplemented with relevant leveling courses.
  • Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist assistant issued by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (SBESLPA)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Understanding of the habilitation and rehabilitation processes for speech-language disorders
  • Capability to instruct and manage student behavior effectively
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities
  • Willingness to travel to various assigned work locations
Experience:

Minimum of 25 hours of observation and 25 hours of direct clinical service, or the ability to fulfill the 50-hour requirement within a specified timeframe.

Additional Information:

This position is supported by external funding sources. The continuation of this role is dependent on the ongoing availability of such funding. All responsibilities must align with the respective funding requirements.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Therapeutic Services

  1. Assist with informal documentation as instructed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  2. Provide progress data to the supervisor regarding student outcomes.
  3. Adhere to established treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  4. Document student performance metrics and relay this information to the supervising speech-language pathologist.
Collaboration
  1. Work in partnership with classroom educators to design and implement activities that enhance students' communication skills.
  2. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents regarding therapy goals and student needs.
Student Engagement
  1. Create a learning environment that is appropriate for the developmental level and interests of students.
  2. Establish control and enforce discipline in accordance with established guidelines.
  3. Serve as a positive role model for students.
  4. Collect data to support quality improvement initiatives.
Program Oversight
  1. Assist in the ongoing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and implement changes based on evaluation findings.
  2. Support the selection of necessary equipment and instructional materials.
  3. Help with administrative tasks such as preparing materials and scheduling activities as directed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  4. Contribute to departmental operations, including scheduling and record-keeping.
Compliance
  1. Adhere to policies established by relevant federal and state laws, as well as district regulations.
  2. Follow all district and campus routines and job responsibilities.
  3. Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance job-related skills.
Other Responsibilities:
  1. Report to work punctually and maintain appropriate attendance.
  2. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Working Conditions:

Mental and physical demands include maintaining emotional control under stress. Regular travel to multiple work locations may be required, along with moderate lifting and carrying. The role may involve assisting students with physical disabilities.
