Mechanical Design Engineer for Automated Test Equipment at Tesla

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Manufacturing Test Engineering group at Tesla. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, automation, and robotics, with a passion for creating innovative and robust testing equipment.
Responsibilities- Design and develop automated test equipment, including detailed CAD models and pneumatic diagrams.
- Conceptualize equipment development, balancing product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
- Identify opportunities for performance, robustness, and ease of assembly improvements.
- Analyze system constraints and propose innovative solutions.
- Support building, debugging, validation, and equipment duplication efforts.
- Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery to ensure robustness and quality.
- 2+ years of experience as a Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineer with a focus on automation, machine design, robotics, and product development.
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production.
- Knowledge in solid mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, dynamics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, everyday machining, and fabrication processes.
- Exposure to sensors, microcontrollers, robots, and relays.
- Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
- Versed in SolidWorks, PDM, and Ansys, or similar CAD/CAE software.
- Experience on student engineering teams and organizations, such as BAJA or Formula SAE, is a plus.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
