Design and Develop High-Quality Manufacturing Equipment
Tesla Manufacturing Engineers play a crucial role in designing and developing high-quality manufacturing equipment and processes. As a Manufacturing Engineer - Battery Module Zone Lead, you will work with cross-functional teams to develop efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce battery modules for Tesla's cutting-edge power electronics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds
- Determine and procure equipment necessary for all manufacturing processes used to build the product
- Work with equipment integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures for medium to high-volume production
- Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff, and installation of manufacturing equipment
- Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
- Develop new manufacturing processes
- Determine layout of production workstations for product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency
- Perform process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing activities, and capacity modeling/simulation
- Provide DFM input to design team for process and yield improvements
- Create detailed manufacturing instructions to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipment
Requirements:
- Experience as a hands-on Mechanical/Manufacturing/Design Engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
- Experience using 2D cad tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)
- Experience with conveyance, transducer-based fastening systems (Atlas Copco preferred), robotic systems (Fanuc or Kuka preferred), adhesive dispensing, laser welding, or automated functional testing
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
- Experience providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Automation (DFA)
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
