Melbourne, Florida, United States Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

This role requires attendance from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with potential for negotiation.

As a member of the education support team, this position entails executing tasks in alignment with established guidelines, accepted practices, and institutional policies under the supervision of qualified personnel. Responsibilities may encompass the coordination of fellow support staff within the educational environment.

The education support role is designed to enhance the educational services offered to students, ensuring that duties do not overlap with those of a certified teacher as outlined in relevant educational legislation. Supervision of students may occur individually or in small groups, with a maximum of four students, under controlled conditions where a teacher retains overall responsibility.

At this level, candidates may be required to possess certifications or qualifications that span up to three years, excluding roles designated for Registered Nurses, which begin at a higher classification.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Executing specific support tasks aimed at achieving educational outcomes, often involving accountability for singular functions, such as maintaining accurate data records, or coordinating a work area under the principal's or manager's guidance.
  • Assisting educators in the delivery of educational programs by undertaking defined support tasks or managing the support function.
  • Providing supervised health and wellbeing assistance, medical support tasks, or specialized roles that require specific qualifications and training.
  • Performing technical tasks that necessitate a solid understanding of basic technical or scientific principles, aiding in the development and adaptation of work methods.

Initially, this role will focus on routine tasks conducted under close supervision, with opportunities for increased independence as experience is gained. Responsibilities may evolve to include coordination, specialized support tasks, or technical duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver routine assistance to educators, including support in planning student activities.
  • Facilitate communication between educators and parents.
  • Engage with teachers regarding routine student matters and other responsibilities.
  • Provide basic physical care and wellbeing support for students, including assistance with toileting, meals, and mobility.
  • Support students in understanding basic tasks and information.
  • Address immediate behavioral issues related to specific students in accordance with school policies.
  • Offer basic supervision for individuals or small groups of students within a classroom setting.
  • Assist educators in coordinating educational programs, including scheduling and organizing the work of support staff.
  • Provide medical support to students under specific conditions, following appropriate training and guidance.
