Position Overview
This role entails a commitment of up to five (5) days during school vacation periods, with compensation provided for attendance.
The position is part of an educational support team, functioning under established guidelines and school policies, with oversight from designated supervisors. Responsibilities may include coordinating with other support staff within the educational framework.
As an educational support aide, your primary function is to assist in delivering educational services to students, while refraining from performing any duties classified as teaching under the relevant educational legislation. Supervision of students may occur individually or in small groups, ensuring that a teacher retains overall responsibility.
Qualifications may include certification or training of up to three years, with the understanding that certain roles, such as those requiring nursing qualifications, are not applicable at this level.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide essential support to educators, including assistance with student routine planning.
- Facilitate communication between educators and families.
- Engage with teachers regarding routine student matters and responsibilities.
- Deliver basic physical care and wellbeing support for students, including assistance with toileting, meals, and mobility.
- Support students in understanding basic tasks and information.
- Address immediate behavioral issues in alignment with school policies.
- Supervise and support small groups of students within classroom settings.
- Assist educators in coordinating educational programs, including scheduling and managing the work of support staff.
- Provide medical support to students as required, under appropriate training and guidance.
- Facilitate specialized communication support for students and educators, including sign language and braille.
