Highway Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:
The State of Montana is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to highway maintenance, including laborer, lead worker, equipment operator, and truck driver.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a variety of equipment, including trucks, to perform regular maintenance activities such as ditch cleaning, patching, overlays, fence repairs, lawn mowing, and material or equipment transportation.
- Load sanding material and perform snow removal and sanding in winter.
- Perform preoperational checking, scheduled servicing, and add fluids, and change pins, cutting edges, etc. for overall functional operation of machines.
- Perform related work as required.
Requirements:
- Requires knowledge of highway maintenance and equipment typically assigned to a section, including basic diesel/gasoline vehicle maintenance.
- One (1) year experience driving heavy trucks and operating construction equipment; basic math, computers, and record keeping; and the ability to make estimates of materials needed.
- A valid Montana Class A Type II Commercial Operators license with endorsements for air brakes and tanker is required.
- Applicants with a Class B license or a learner's permit and experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

Additional Information:
- Successful applicants must live or relocate within 45 road miles of the assigned maintenance section and must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters.
