Role Purpose

The primary focus of this position is to design and engineer control systems for small and medium power transformers, as well as mobile substations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and draft control schematics that align with customer specifications, industry standards, and company guidelines, while optimizing for cost and quality.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Production, and Field Service teams throughout the production process to address any issues that arise.
  • Initiate and promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance and contribute positively to the company's objectives.

Specific Duties

  • Execute tasks as directed by the Engineering Manager or Controls Group Lead.
  • Review project documentation, including purchase orders and customer specifications, to ensure accurate design execution.
  • Create schematic and wiring diagrams, as well as cabinet layout drawings for customer approval and production use.
  • Select appropriate instruments and gauges for transformers based on design requirements and established standards.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM), evaluate vendor quotes, and manage material requisitions through the ERP system.
  • Engage in cross-functional activities such as customer meetings and project reviews.
  • Address technical inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Inspect manufactured cabinets to ensure quality and workmanship standards are met.
  • Assist the Control Test department with troubleshooting control-related issues as needed.
  • Support final assembly or field service teams to ensure successful operational start-up.
  • Research and analyze new products and market trends to incorporate into future designs.

Qualifications and Experience

Control Engineer

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in power transformer controls, with at least 3 years focused on control design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Vanilla; experience with AutoCAD Electrical is a plus.

Senior Control Engineer

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in power transformer controls, with a minimum of 7 years in control design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Vanilla; experience with AutoCAD Electrical and substation design is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Experienced in drafting tools such as AutoCAD Vanilla and Electrical.
  • Familiar with NEMA, IEEE, CSA, and IEC standards for control panel design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledgeable in basic circuit theories and transformer condition monitoring instruments.
  • Familiar with various transformer LTC schemes from leading manufacturers.

Travel Requirements

Minimal travel is expected for this role.
