Summary
Whatcom County Public Works is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Safety and Training Program Coordinator. This pivotal position is tasked with the design and implementation of a comprehensive safety and training initiative tailored to the Maintenance and Operations and Equipment Services divisions. The primary goal is to enhance the skills and performance of personnel across all levels within these divisions, ensuring a proficient workforce while prioritizing safety and regulatory adherence.
Your responsibilities will include the administration, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of safety training programs and job task training across Maintenance and Operations and Equipment Services. You will be responsible for assessing job site safety and facilitating both individual and group training sessions in various settings. Additionally, you will serve as the primary liaison for risk management and safety compliance, collaborating closely with Public Works staff, other County departments, and external vendors.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong dedication to safety, experience with heavy construction machinery, and a background in leadership or supervision. A commitment to fostering safety and training excellence within the Maintenance and Operations and Equipment Services divisions is essential.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED with five (5) years of relevant experience in road or heavy construction, including at least two years in a supervisory role, preferably in road or drainage facility construction or maintenance. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or a related field with three (3) years of relevant experience in managing technical training programs is acceptable.
Proficiency in computer operations and various office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, is required. A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets County standards are necessary. Additionally, candidates should possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have extensive experience managing CDL training and renewal programs.
