We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Northrop Grumman's Flight Test Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in aircraft modification and repair projects.
Key Responsibilities- Project Management: Manage the technical performance of aircraft modification and repair projects, including project planning, cost and schedule estimation, risk management, and manufacturing support.
- Aircraft Design and Analysis: Perform structural design and analysis of aircraft modifications and repairs, including creating conceptual and detailed designs of primary and secondary aircraft structural components using 3D solid modeling.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to a multi-disciplined team, including other Engineers, Mechanics, Test Pilots, Quality Control, and Supply Chain.
- Communication and Collaboration: Interface with internal and external program offices, functional management, internal and external customers, as well as suppliers/vendors and subcontractors.
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution with 5 years of related experience; OR a Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related field with 3 years of related experience.
- Clearance: Active DoD Secret security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
- Technical Skills: Ability and experience creating 3D CAD models using Siemens NX or similar software, and performing airframe structural analysis via a combination of classical hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis tools.
- Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge of and familiarity with Federal Aviation Administration aircraft certification requirements, and a variety of aircraft manufacturing methods, including metallic and composite flight structures, aircraft fastening systems, etc.
- FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER): Current FAA Part 23 and/or Part 25 Designated Engineering Representative (DER) in Structures.
- Aircraft Modification Experience: Ability and experience in developing aircraft modification data packages and supporting a project throughout the entire lifecycle from concept to flight activity.
- Composite Structures Experience: Prior design and analysis experience in solid laminate and sandwich composite structures for aircraft fairings and radomes.
Northrop Grumman offers a competitive salary range of $93,000 - $139,600, as well as a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
