Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Standards Engineer to join our team at Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. This role will be responsible for performing engineering work in the Distribution and Transmission Standards area, including the design, development, review, and update of Company standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, review, and update Company standards and guidelines for transmission, substation, and distribution engineering, materials, and construction.
  • Investigate material issues, failure trends, and problems with standard installations.
  • Maintain all standards in hard copy and electronic media forms.
  • Attend and represent the Company at industry meetings.
  • Coordinate with the Documentation Design Department and outside drafting contractors for completion of construction, material, and engineering drawings, standards, and specifications.
  • Assist the Operations Departments by reviewing and/or proposing material and hardware for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
  • Perform specification review and field inspections and field measurements as may be required to investigate material and equipment failures.
  • Keep informed and up to date of the latest industry standards and developments in the distribution, transmission, and substation engineering.
  • Consult with manufacturers to determine causes of equipment failures and prepare reports of findings and make recommendations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 3-5 years of work experience in Distribution, Transmission, or Substation Design.
  • Familiarity with electric distribution, transmission, and substation design and construction.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret layout, one-line, and schematic drawings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply good individual judgment, initiative, creativity, and decision-making in the handling of assignments.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Windows environments, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers. Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed. Must be able to safely perform witness tests at DER field sites.
