Substation Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Engineer to join our team at Consolidated Edison Company of New York. As a Substation Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and applying utility-grade substation systems to transmission and substation systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and apply substation systems to transmission and substation systems
  • Provide engineering support to various operations groups throughout the company
  • Perform preliminary engineering cost estimates for feasibility studies
  • Review, analyze, and prepare reports for each substation project
  • Perform ampacity calculations, substation grounding, battery sizing, lightning protection, and insulation coordination
  • Participate in the company's Emergency Response Plan through a designated storm assignment
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and 2-3 years of total work experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience related substation design experience
  • Ability to interpret layout, one-line, and schematic drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical, technical, and computer skills
  • Proficiency with IEEE/ANSI Standards and National Electrical Safety Code
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in NY, NJ, and PA
  • Ability to apply good individual judgment, initiative, creativity, and decision-making in handling assignments
