Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CRNA to fill the role of Assistant Chief CRNA at JMC Jefferson Medical Center. This position offers a unique blend of clinical and administrative responsibilities, making it an ideal opportunity for a motivated and dedicated professional.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality anesthesia care to patients in a clinical setting
  • Assume a proxy role for day-to-day clinical operations and administrative tasks in the absence of the Chief CRNA
  • Responsible for quality, safety, and performance within the Department of Anesthesiology
  • Facilitate the development of departmental policies and procedures and standards of care
  • Select, hire, manage, and evaluate the effectiveness of employees on an ongoing basis
  • Coach and counsel to correct identified performance deficiencies, developing plans to establish goals and provide follow-up
  • Assist the department in meeting JACHO standards
  • Foster a competent staff through the provision of orientation, in-services, continuing education programs, and competency validation programs
  • Identify current and anticipate future educational needs and develop plans to meet them
  • Support the education of students in nursing, medicine, and allied health professions
  • Participate in professional activities and organizations
  • Supervise the clinical orientation of newly hired CRNAs
  • Participate in the evaluation and in-servicing of new anesthetic equipment and monitors
  • Same responsibilities as that of the staff CRNA and able to fill in clinically in a variety of cases
  • Responsible for setting up a committee of CRNAs to represent the group on issues and policies
  • Responsible for the monthly CRNA schedule
  • Responsible for the vacation schedule
  • Conducts monthly CRNA meetings and submission of CEUs to the AANA for 2 CEUs/month
  • Completes Annual Performance Appraisals for staff CRNAs in collaboration with the input from the Anesthesia Chair and/or Vice Chair/Medical Director and Departmental Administrator
  • If requested, attend the portion of Anesthesiology Departmental Faculty/Executive Meetings/Charge Meetings having CRNA issues being discussed
  • Promotes intradepartmental (anesthesiology) and interdepartmental (administration and nursing) communication and participates in conflict resolution
  • Collaborates with the Chief CRNA on staffing, assignments, contribution to ongoing professional practice evaluations as well as annual performance evaluations
  • Participates with the Chief CRNA to assess, plan, implement, develop, and analyze anesthesia policies and procedures in conjunction with the medical and/or surgical staff
  • Demonstrates collaboration in managing budget, recommending needed anesthesia equipment, textiles, staffing, or operational space administration
  • Assumes responsibility for the patient-focused performance improvement process engaging staff participation in multidisciplinary activities conducted for the purpose of improving the quality and reducing the cost of care
  • Develops and monitors appropriate operational performance measures. Reviews outcomes and improves operational systems to ensure continued improvement.
  • Provides leadership support regarding accreditation and regulatory activities including but not limited to OFLAC, CMS and other safety and quality initiatives as it relates to ANP or advanced practitioners.
  • Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care for Advanced Practice Professionals in accordance with Standards of Care, philosophy and plans of the Department of Anesthesiology.
Requirements
  • Masters' degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia
  • Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
  • Current certification with National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists
  • Active membership in American Association of Nurse Anesthetists
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Two (2) years of Clinical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
  • Three (3) years of Administrative experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
