Below, you’ll find other important information about this position. The Assistant Chief CRNA has dual responsibilities as: Clinical CRNA in the provision of anesthetics at WVUH. Administrative CRNA in being responsible for CRNA’s in conjunction with Chief CRNA. The Assistant Chief CRNA’s duties are flexible based on the needs of the department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: Masters' degree in Nursing (MSN). Graduate of an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia. Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia. Current certification with National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. Active membership in American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of Clinical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of Administrative experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Assumes a proxy role for day-to-day clinical operations and administrative tasks to maintain departmental continuity in the absence of the Chief CRNA. Responsible for quality, safety, and performance within the Department of Anesthesiology. Facilitates the development of departmental policies and procedures and standards of care. Selects, hires, manages, and evaluates the effectiveness of employees on an ongoing basis. Coaches and counsels to correct identified performance deficiencies, developing plans, which establish goals, provides follow-up and follows established hospital policies. Assists the department in meeting JACHO standards. Fosters a competent staff through the provision of orientation, in-services, continuing education programs and competency validation programs. Identifies current and anticipates future educational needs & develops plans to meet them. Supports the education of students in nursing, medicine and allied health professions. Participates in professional activities and organizations. Supervises the clinical orientation of newly hired CRNA’s. Participates in the evaluation and in servicing of new anesthetic equipment and monitors. Same responsibilities as that of the staff CRNA and able to fill in clinically in a variety of cases. Responsible for setting up a committee of CRNA to represent the group on issues and policies. Responsible for the monthly CRNA schedule. Responsible for the vacation schedule. Conducts monthly CRNA meetings and submission of CEU to the AANA for 2 CEU’s/month. Completes Annual Performance Appraisals for staff CRNA’s in collaboration with the input from the Anesthesia Chair and/or Vice Chair/Medical Director and Departmental Administrator. If requested, attend the portion of Anesthesiology Departmental Faculty/Executive Meetings/Charge Meetings having CRNA issues being discussed. Promotes intradepartmental (anesthesiology) and interdepartmental (administration and nursing) communication and participate in conflict resolution. Collaborates with the Chief CRNA on staffing, assignments, contribution to ongoing professional practice evaluations as well as annual performance evaluations. Participates with the Chief CRNA to assess, plan, implement, develop, and analyze anesthesia policies and procedures in conjunction with the medical and or surgical staff. Demonstrates collaboration in managing budget, recommending needed anesthesia equipment, textiles, staffing, or operational space administration. Assumes responsibility for the patient focused performance improvement process engaging staff participation in multidisciplinary activities conducted for the purpose of improving the quality and reducing the cost of care. Develops and monitors appropriate operational performance measures. Reviews outcomes and improves operational systems to ensure continued improvement. Provides leadership support regarding accreditation and regulatory activities including but not limited to OFLAC, CMS and other safety and quality initiatives as it relates to ANP or advanced practitioners. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care for Advanced Practice Professionals in accordance with Standards of Care, philosophy and plans of the Department of Anesthesiology.
