The Laboratory Animal Resources team at Blueprint Medicines is on the lookout for a dedicated, detail-oriented, and collaborative Senior Manager for our Animal Care Facility (ACF). This position is integral to our dynamic environment, working alongside a diverse team to support drug discovery initiatives related to pharmacology, DMPK, biopharmaceutics, tolerability, and translational medicine. The Laboratory Animal Resources division encompasses an internal rodent vivarium, skilled in-vivo scientific personnel, husbandry technicians, and an external attending veterinarian. As the Senior Manager of ACF, you will play a crucial role within the LAR team and the wider Quantitative Translational Pharmacology organization. Your primary responsibility will be overseeing the daily operations of our on-site ACF, ensuring compliance with IACUC protocols and EH&S policies, and maintaining the standards necessary for AAALAC accreditation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operational functions of the ACF, including procurement of animals, housing, feed, and other essential supplies.
  • Collaborate with the animal husbandry team to manage daily care activities.
  • Engage with IACUC and the attending veterinarian to uphold high standards of animal welfare and care.
  • Schedule regular ACF assessments with the attending veterinarian and/or IACUC.
  • Assist in drafting and renewing IACUC animal use protocols, ensuring adherence to all ACF policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the EH&S team to meet all Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations regarding animal research and controlled substances.
  • Organize routine maintenance and inspections of ACF equipment, including BSCs, grossing stations, anesthesia machines, and animal housing.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation related to ACF operations, animal care, and training programs.
  • Manage orientation and training on ACF policies and electronic documentation systems.
  • Partner with the Facility Operations Team to ensure the upkeep of mechanical equipment.
  • Work with the in vivo pharmacology team to prepare for animal orders and organize housing space.
  • Depending on experience, may also engage in in vivo/ex vivo activities to support the pharmacology team.
  • This position requires on-site presence, with occasional work during non-standard hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years of industry experience or a Master's degree with 5 years of industry experience, including a minimum of 5 years working with animals.
  • At least 2 years in a vivarium management capacity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in veterinary medicine, animal science, or a related discipline.
  • Practical experience conducting in-vivo studies in rodents, including various dosing methods and tissue collection techniques.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment characterized by rigorous scientific challenges and innovative thinking.
  • Familiarity with standard analytical software tools, including Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to effective communication.
  • Certification from the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (ALAT, LAT, or LATG).
