Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Design Engineer to join our team at Newell Brands. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative products that meet the needs of our consumers.

Responsibilities
  • Develop concepts for new products and prototypes using 3D CAD modeling and rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, industrial design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, to ensure design and functionality requirements are met.
  • Participate in creative and technical brainstorming sessions to drive design innovation and problem-solving.
  • Provide direction on material selection, design perimeters, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Develop product drawings and part specifications that execute on design and functionality requirements.
  • Implement existing technologies as needed to meet business objectives, with a focus on electro-mechanical power transmission and motion control.
  • Encourage category Profit & Loss (P&L) and key drivers that affect overall program financial health.
  • Implement engineering solutions, working autonomously or as lead engineer on a project team, to deliver fully engineered products and solutions.
  • Review project proposals cross-functionally to determine technical project specifications.
  • Develop and maintain timing and action plans for projects of large scope.
  • Oversee the performance of the technical team to ensure product deliverables are met.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of product design/development experience.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling (Creo preferred), part and assembly models.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical power transmission and motion control is a plus.
  • Knowledge of electronics and how to integrate them into a design is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in intellectual property and the patent process.
  • Effective planning/organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and set priorities.
  • Experience leading projects with domestic and global suppliers.
  • Strong prototyping/design validation model building skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficient computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint).
