Your Role

The Fortnite Creative Team is dedicated to providing the complete toolset of Unreal Engine and the Unreal Editor to developers and creators, enabling them to create and publish experiences within Fortnite.

In this position, you will be responsible for designing gameplay systems, developing APIs in a new programming language, and contributing to a comprehensive gameplay framework and features that empower Fortnite creators to craft the next generation of extraordinary gameplay experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement gameplay systems and create robust, stable, and user-friendly APIs for both internal and external game developers.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers across various teams to devise solutions that meet their requirements.
  • Actively seek and respond to critical feedback from fellow developers.
  • Explore and research innovative solutions with engineers and game designers, utilizing rapid prototyping to ensure sound architectural and algorithmic choices.
  • Collaborate closely with art and design teams to develop and refine gameplay features and tools.
  • Ensure technical excellence across multiple platforms and optimize/fix issues in existing gameplay systems.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in C++ with the capability to code and design gameplay mechanics and related tools.
  • Experience with various programming languages and a proven ability to leverage their strengths while mitigating weaknesses.
  • Well-versed in gaming with the ability to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of existing game designs (a preference for online games is beneficial).
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in writing efficient code that operates across diverse hardware platforms, particularly game consoles.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to think beyond conventional solutions.
