Position Overview:
As a Youth Advocacy Educator, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of My Sister's Place in alignment with our core values as a member of the Community Education and Prevention team. This position requires delivering educational programs with compassion while adhering to culturally sensitive best practices and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with a passionate and diverse team of educators committed to making a difference, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting both short-term and long-term workshops focused on preventing teen dating violence within schools, community organizations, and youth treatment facilities.
  • Creating and implementing Healthy Relationships workshops and the Relationships, Empowerment, And Leadership (REAL) programs, including curriculum development and outreach initiatives.
  • Organizing and facilitating a week-long Summer Institute retreat aimed at high school students.
  • Establishing The Leadership Circle (TLC), an ongoing youth cohort dedicated to enhancing leadership and advocacy skills related to healthy relationships and anti-oppression.
  • Leading training sessions for professionals and parents who work with youth on the topic of dating violence.
  • Developing and overseeing volunteer opportunities and leadership programs for teens.
  • Managing the scheduling system for workshops and providing outreach and support to partner schools and organizations.
  • Entering evaluation data into the database and generating reports as necessary.
  • Assessing program outcomes and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for grant purposes.
  • Cross-training on various functions related to all Community Education and Prevention services.
  • Offering short-term support, referrals, and advocacy for survivors of dating violence.
  • Acting as a liaison between the Community Education and Prevention team and external partners.
  • Collaborating with staff across various departments within the organization.
  • Undertaking additional projects and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Success Factors:
To thrive in this role, you should be a passionate advocate for social justice, employing an anti-oppression framework to understand the complexities of gender-based violence. Recognizing that clients navigate various structural and social injustices that influence their experiences is crucial. This position demands a continuous commitment to developing the necessary language and tools to dismantle institutional oppression.

Team Structure:
The Community Education and Prevention team at My Sister's Place includes a Community Educator, Manager of Youth Education and Prevention, Director of Social Transformation, Coordinator of Giant Steps Through Athletics, Project Coordinator for Linking Communities Collaboration for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, and Senior Director of Community Collaborations.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor of Arts degree in social work, sociology, gender/women's studies, or education is preferred.
  • A reliable vehicle, a valid driver's license, and a willingness to travel extensively.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents, knowledge of teen dating violence, and familiarity with positive youth development strategies and anti-oppression practices.
  • Strong public speaking skills, particularly in educational and large-group settings.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Independence in managing priorities, taking initiative, and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with computer proficiency.
  • A willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and evenings as needed.
  • A commitment to supporting our organizational philosophy and principles.
  • Participation in agency-wide and community events to strengthen our organizational goals.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to synthesize diverse perspectives.
  • Professionalism in maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients and occasionally lift files or move up to 10 pounds.
