Cybersecurity Vulnerability Analyst

Position Title: Vulnerability Management Analyst
Location: Remote
Compensation: $25-30/hr. based on experience
Contract Duration: 12 months with potential for permanent placement
Role Overview: As a Vulnerability Management Analyst, you will be part of Brooksource's Elevate Program, which focuses on professional growth and technical skill enhancement within a dynamic financial services environment.
This role is suited for individuals enthusiastic about cybersecurity, particularly in the areas of vulnerability evaluation, operating system patch management, and software lifecycle oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vulnerability Evaluation:
- Perform regular assessments of vulnerabilities across all IT assets utilizing industry-standard tools.
- Evaluate and prioritize vulnerabilities based on their risk, impact, and potential for exploitation.
- Work collaboratively with various teams to ensure timely remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
- Operating System Patch Management:
- Support the management of patching processes for Windows Server and Redhat Linux systems.
- Develop and implement effective patch management strategies to minimize business disruption.
- Monitor and report on patch compliance throughout the organization.
- End of Life Software Management:
- Identify and monitor software nearing or past its end of service life.
- Coordinate with application owners and IT teams to plan for the upgrade or replacement of outdated software.
- Ensure all obsolete software is either decommissioned or upgraded to supported versions to maintain security compliance.
- Security Monitoring and Incident Response:
- Track security alerts and incidents related to vulnerabilities and patch management.
- Assist in investigating and responding to security incidents involving unpatched systems or outdated software.
- Provide insights and recommendations for enhancing security posture and reducing vulnerability exposure.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of vulnerability assessments, patch management activities, and software remediation efforts.
- Generate management reports detailing the status of vulnerabilities, patching, and software compliance.
- Contribute to the formulation of security policies and procedures related to vulnerability management.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline. Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH) are advantageous.
- Experience:
- Some background or internships in vulnerability management, operating system patching, or software lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with vulnerability management tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys, Rapid7).
- Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and their respective patching processes.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and change management is beneficial.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
